Back to the 71 hour work weeks. There are only two people working at my job and when we lose the receptionist on the other side of the building, we're losing this post, which means we don't have a job. Going from 71 hours to 0. People tell me to quit or I'll die but I tell them "I'm working so my mom's 9.50 isn't the only income we get. Give me a better job to jump to and I'll take it. But if I quit, Pablo's going to jail because if he doesn't have a job, he can't pay child support. I have the weight of two people on my shoulders." They just laugh, lol.

My review of The Limits of Control would require you to watch it.
And, at that point, you would no logner need my review.
You would either not understand or you would be too busy trying to understand it.
In short, I fucking love this movie.

How I feel about the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta.
Fuck 12 year olds that live on Halo because, in 30 minutes, I maybe assisted on one squad kill. I've never seen snipers this good in real life. I'm done.

Also in videogame news:
Kane and Lynch 2. The website is so soothing to me. Claustrophobic and foreboding but brings back memories.
No More Heroes. Japan's getting a 360 port of it. If this is translated to English and brought over, hell god yes.
I sold my Prototype shit, swag and guide included, for $38. Not bad considering how much money you make on ebay with games.

Maybe I just don't like Godard flicks. I mean, Breathless was ok, Bande ? part was ok, and I couldn't last more than 10 minutes into Made in U.S.A. Sorry, film, but everyday I'm getting further away from you it seems. You were once a glowing testament to human creation, the artform anyone could love. And now you've got Marky Mark doing bad Max Payne cosplay and you were this close to casting Will Smith in an Oldboy remake. Look, it's over between you and me. We had good times (most of which I paid for because you were too cheap to see me) and we can still be friends but it's not working out. Yes, I'm dumping you but don't-- oh stop it! You're too fucking emotional!

So, I was looking at some sponsored ads and I saw one with the caption I "WAS" A FAT SLOB. Apparently, this guy replaced all his fat with muscle in 4 weeks. I can seriously believe that. However, he went from 3 tats to yakuza sleeves in a month? Now I'm intrigued.

Anyway, more small movie reviews because all I do here in this town is hide from the neighbors and watch movies:

Broken Flowers: bill fucking murray can pretty much just fart at me for 5 hours and i'd love it. mom's got his autograph, yo. anyway, typical slow-paced jarmusch and just as strong as you'd expect from him.

Art School Confidential: decent twists, the best kind of straight-to-dvd film even though it hit theaters, and Malkovich kills it. also, the characters are spot on. the film guy? yeah, that was me in college.

American Graffiti: george lucas bores the living shit out of me. i was hoping that pre-star wars lucas would be better but, eh.

Blow: i am depressed now.

The Prisoner of Second Avenue: best jack lemmon vs. sylvester stallone chase scene in central park ever. slice of life new york city in the 70's, man. was just as shitty a place then as it is now, haha. yeah, i miss nyc because fuck odessa but still. new york can be a fucking migraine. anyway, delightfully jewy movie. is it spelled 'jewy?'

Kikujiro: heartwarming, excellent craftsmanship, a perfect soundtrack. love kitano films.

The first 14 minutes to Assassin's Creed 2 prologue movie rocked it. Gay Tony's in 2 days.
I've done 48 hours in 4 days at work so far this week. I don't know if I'm awake right now but I've been erect for 2 hours and I'm concerned.
I've been having these dreams about what I'm supposed to do with my life and it only makes me more confused when I wake up and go back to work.
Fuck Pretend Cops, I want to be in a band called The Reckless Abandon.
FuckYouCat.com is the best blog on the fucking internet.

Here are some more quick movie reviews:

Zombieland: Actually damn good. Adopts from L4D, has no beginning or end, and Little Miss Sunshine kicks ass in it. Not a dislikable character in the bunch. Also, BILL FUCKING MURRAY!

Koyaanisqatsi: Impressive, powerful, insightful. Loved it. It's surreal to watch this and live in a town full of oil drills. What have we done?

Sons of Anarchy marathon: The Lost and Damned as a TV show. Oh god I'm loving this shit.

Fast Sofa: Jennifer Tilly is bondage was nice and Crispin Glover is the man in everything but I was not enthralled.

Movies sure aren't what they used to be but, boy howdy, I love that Zac Efron.

People who still read this, I have a question.

NaNoWriMo, right? Well, yeah, I don't know what to compose for it. I was thinking of putting a hit on the vice president and doing a novel about an information war that follows. Then I thought "fuck that Tom Clancy shit, you can't fit sexually explicit words in that" and decided on a security guard that gets caught up in a terrorist play and becomes most motherfucking wanted but I hate actually being a Paul Blart. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just write about Odessa itself. Not badass funk enough but I can work something out. Mom's torn between 2 pretty cool ideas and, either way, she's gonna do alright, lol.

What should I write?

What I believe will happen: My idea will kick ass, people will be like "whoa" and my style will be strange enough to draw people in. And then I'll reach word 970 and T_T FUCK I CAN'T DO THIS XO GOD FUCK DAMMIT SHIIIIIII ._. ::sniff:: I'm worthless oh man I just... -_- Again, Pfil? Really?

Stay tuned! ^_^

I have a friend here. It's wonderful. She hates rednecks, curses like a sailor who just got hit with a bag, explores things spontaneously, and went to a sex shop with me after we had tea. Finally, a friend in Texas.

http://bit.ly/1I5JRS

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me: What the fuck did I just watch? I loved it, I want more, but I have no idea what it is. It? Hahahahahaha. Was this something I watched? There was a stillness. Like the formica table. Ok, in all seriousness, I want to play Max Payne 2 now.

French Connection: Makes me wanna play GTA4 again because I miss NYC so much. Filmed on the real streets of the real NYC, the outer boroughs. "The Puerto Rican Connection," while an annoying mission, is essentially the car versus train chase from this movie - fucking best car chase of all time, better than Bullitt imho. Hackman can run too.

A Hard Day's Night: I don't know why this was billed as a mockumentary since it's way too stylized and comedic to be taken seriously as verite. Instead, it's a comedy starring The Beatles as The Beatles. Not bad, actually.

The Shining: Hollywood died with Kubrick. Chilling stuff, Nicholson killing it. Hate kid actors, always will.

Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy: This is what I've been trying to accomplish but couldn't because you need a crew to make a movie. They said this was no-budget and I strongly doubt that but the (sometimes awful) effects and (sometimes awful) acting are all amateur fanmade gold. Goes to show that if you have a few bucks, good props, access to good locales, and most importantly the people who can help you get all of these things, you can make a good movie. When I moved here, I wanted to do a fanmovie for Typing of the Dead. And I still do but I'm one man with zero manpower - until the day I get what I need or live vicariously through my kid, it's good to see other people making film and doing it selflessly.

Hotel Rwanda: Love Don Cheadle / hate Nick Nolte. His worst acting ever, should've won him a razzie. What makes this movie so powerful is what it's based on. I wish I could feel more but the movie didn't speak to me so much. No one can deny its quality - I'd only be repeating other reviewers.

Falling Down: It's always nice to watch movies starring villains, scariest thing is relating to him, relating to the streets. Most surreal action flick I've ever seen.

a. Exogenesis is a 12:51 Muse song with strings.

b. I just had a short non-date with a girl who can fight machines. She got a free kids halloween bucket from Jack In The Box but my receipt was 7.77 so I won.

c. 500 Days of Summer: Works as an anti-romcom, great editing, as funny as the critics say. Music video directors are rarely this good at making feature films. Would visit again.

Shoot 'Em Up: I love Clive Owen and, even though I just confirmed I'm not gay, I'd suck him dry. However! He was still not good enough to get me to watch this whole thing in one sitting. Took me 7 hours to watch this because it was straight the fuck up garbage. Hell, I liked Meet The Spartans more and I was drinking a bottle of triple sec to get me through that one.

Mean Streets: Not only did I like this more than Raging Bull, I think Deniro was better in it too.

Tetsuo The Iron Man: I haven't seen anything this off the wall fucked up and gritty indie since Electric Dragon 80,000 V, which was also a trip.

My Neighbor Totoro: Fucking god Japanese girls stop fucking screaming I'm seriously just be quiet oh my god. Wow, aside from the bevy of screaming girls who are always screaming, I loved it. Great for kids who have attention spans like they did back in 1988 but wonderful for adults just the same. Animation that behaves like master cinematography, excellent editing and a whimsical soundtrack accompany good old storytelling.

Wesley Willis: The Daddy of Rock 'n Roll: Following Wesley Willis through his daily routine is sometimes a hellride to watch but it remains essential viewing for people who understand strange. Surreal stuff.

Chinatown: Dark, gritty film noir with just the right dose of Jack and a multi-layered plot. It blows my mind that Hilary Duff could ever talk shit on Dunaway. Even if you know how the mystery plays out, the ending is an eye-opener.

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans: Normally, I dislike silent movies and this was no different an experience. However, I found its grittiness was far more effective than most movies from the 1920's.

Inglorious Basterds: I don't want to sound like every reviewer after they see a Tarantino movie but I can't help it. Fucking brilliant. Mike Myers can't act, though.

It's really not that confusing, is it? )

Buffalo '66: Gallo is an angry, angry man. Great debut film, awkwardly comical and sometimes painful to watch but brimming with talent.

Leaked Californication S3 E1-2: Runkel's gone full retard and the family angst doesn't even work but Duchovny's somehow managed to find a way to be funnier. Still love this show.

Sherlock Jr.: I get depressed when I have to watch a silent film off of the iMDB 250 or BFI/AFI lists because it shatters my argument against elitism and shines a spiteful mirror in my face. Yes, I dislike and am extremely bored by silent films despite loving Nosferatu. Yes, I admire Buster Keaton's immense talent but am not interested in his acting in the slightest. This makes me upset because as much as I want to fight to keep art alive, there is art I don't give any affection to and I've no intention of passing this on or recommending this to a generation that thinks Zac Efron is the next Bogart. Sherlock Jr. was no exception. Besides, The General was better.

Bande A Part: Story's good, Godard is cool, some scenes taken out of context become pleasurable independent of the movie itself.

The beast and I, Odessa, TX. )

Hedwig and the Angry Itch: Awesome, arty, excellent debut, Miriam Shor's a wonderful actress.

The Hangover: Galifianakis is the only reason to watch this.

Sex, Lies and Videotape: Spader is terrific, brilliant execution, pretty much the indie standard.

The Hebrew Hammer: Very Jewish, Adam Goldberg is sexy, the win overweighs the campiness.

Tyson: Impressive, more like watching a man in therapy than a documentary.

Nine Songs: Sex scenes and mainstream haircore rock. This cost £1,000,000 to make?

Finally reached 100 loved songs on last.fm
Confirmed, I am strange and sexy. Every other day, I'm hustling.

I really want to be in a band called The Pretend Cops. Like really fucking badly.

All this Kanye hate is hilarious to me. Haylie Duff of all people won the Twitter fight with her comment about it.
Speaking of, I still believe that my Twitter will always be more interesting than my LJ or Facebook.
Also, I have a MySpace and haven't updated it since I was in Austin so it's probably emo and pathetic.

I found an alleyway-looking enclave entrance to a rundown pet supply store near the last asian market (which may be going out of business since everyone here's a kicker). I'm going to put on a suit and tie and take a picture in it because Odessa be damned I WILL do something cool here.

I am also going to embroider a pink bear into my polo shirt in an attempt to make it fashionable.
If it works, consider that the prelude to my silkscreening misadventures.

When we first moved here, we wondered what the smelly spiky balls were. Were they dead insects, were they alive and whose purpose was simply to expand pricks like a sea urchin, were they formed by other things like a tumbleweed? Once we'd gotten rid of them, we stopped caring because Texas has thousands of millions of new species of bug, animal, insect, etc. Literally, some insects can't even be described. "That sword-looking thing with the wings that are like flags. It looked at me."

Well, I'm crossing the street to get some KFC since I'm in the joke version of the ghetto. KFC, unemployment office, Hooters, 7/11, bar. Same block as the broken meth-lab apartment complex I live in. Anyway, I cut through the grass as a shortcut because I'm trying to avoid all my mexican neighbors. Seriously, I agree with the building a wall thing now. All of the sudden, intense pain. I look down and my black pants are now beige, covered in spiky balls that smell horrible. They pierced through my pants, into my legs. I limp to sit down (to discover that I've now impaled my ass with 3 of them) and use my keys as tweezers to slowly pull all of them out. I learned quickly that using your fingers, no matter how gently, is a mistake. Honestly, I have a very soft touch and can move very gracefully if I have to. But I still ended up with my fingers covered in blood. After 45 minutes, I got all of them out and stayed to the concrete. As I type this, I have lost all non-pain feeling in my left thigh. ^_^

Stay classy, USA DAY! [Sep. 11th, 2009|01:24 am]
Live from small town grassroots Jim-Bob 6-pack, it's HAPPY AMERICA DAY! WHOOOOOOOO How are you celebrating it? Oh, me? Since I'm actually from NYC and was there during the Brooklyn quarantine, I'm takin' it easy with some alcohol and Saint's Row 2 multiplayer. Haters to the west coast, toothless Americans be grilling they burgers and hot dogs and other German foods.

To an old friend:

I get pretty emo about it and I'm thankful you could wade through the bitterness I still throw about and managed to fit in that entry. Thanks for the text and I'm glad you were touched. Not sure who you are from the signature but I've got a good idea and I wonder how you're doing. Hell, I wonder how you're all doing sometimes. I left a lot in you guys and in that city. I ran because I was afraid of losing all my money and time in a big city with way too much competition but you saw how well I did in Austin. I'm sure that got a laugh or two, especially since I ended up in Odessa, lol. Shit, I laugh about it too but in a very The Joker way. Well, I'm not friends with her anymore. Too stupid. And, here, that's saying something. So, basically, I'm friendless here too. Not sure if I'd call it karma for something I might've done back in NYC since I was a target for a lot of shit as well but I'm sure I'm not the only one who got lost. I've got a lot of time to think now, though, and I'm always 98% complete regarding every good idea I have. Once I reach that point, I always go back to NYC in my memories. It's like a mystical sketchbook full of faded photos that move and, in it, I see things I should or should not have done. That includes the rest of the city I left unexplored. I might go back once I'm done with everything but all of my business ideas seem to work in the Pacific Northwest more than a place as elite and complex as New York, so I don't know when I'll be able to see it again. If you're there right now, you should eat at Pongsri if it's still standing. And don't take it for granted like I did.

Sometimes, I drink and flip coins with David Axelrod on in the background and think of NYC. And I thought of something re: NYC earlier that hit me in the throat. I never experienced my own hometown. Not in the way everyone else does. Sure, I knew my area and others. I roamed about, both enjoyed and loathed the layout, met people, saw things, ate good food... but I never appreciated NYC until I left. Grass is greener and all that. I grew up spoiled by living in NYC before any other town. Austin made NYC the den of the gods. And Odessa makes Austin a pretty fun looking town. And I'm constantly worried about dying poor and alone, yearning for a place like this one because things can always get worse, you know? Heh heh, I'm such a jew sometimes. But, seriously, I miss the city. And I never saw everything because I thought I'd have all the time in the world to save up the necessary funds. Now that I'm ready, I'm here. My dreams get bigger with every smaller destination I find myself in. And James? Yeah, he beat me to Portland. Stevo might go to Florida instead of the NW. And I ran out of irl friends. (Granted, I'm better off without 'em but having no possibility of their benefits is depressing.) I don't know when I'll go back if I even do. If that's not a reason to drink and think about the big city, I don't know what is. Until I come up with the thing that will get me the money and time, I'll just be here drawing cat doodles. ^_^
